Friends & Neighbors Community Cafe' - (not started yet)
Friends & Neighbors community cafe exist to feed each and every person who walks through our doors with dignity regardless of their ability to pay. Our Cafe' is about working together, shoulder to shoulder with our neighbors, community and friends to confront hunger, poverty and homelessness. Simply put, in these unstable economic times, we will feed anyone. Our community cafe is meant to raise the level of awareness about food nutrition and insecurity. The community cafe' is in a restaurant setting that maintains one's dignity and fills people with nutritious food.
How does it work? The concept is designed to make food accessible to everyone regardless of their means. The cafe' does not have prices. Instead, we provide suggested donation amounts to help customers understand what it will take for us to operate the cafe and be self-sufficient. The customer decides what to contribute into our donation bin. Those without any means to contribute have the option of donating an hour of their time to volunteering in our cafe in exchange for a meal, however, this is not required.
Why did you start a cafe? Entiat was in great need of a 'heartbeat' a gathering spot for people to meet, enjoy conversation, fellowship and good food. A place where food is affordable, home-cooked meals, cheerful, friendly, place for all people to gather, meet, enjoy socializing and community events.
Several restaruants closed over the years, and people found themselves with no place to eat breakfast, or gather together for coffee and conversation. The need for a place to eat, and connect was going unmet. The community, especially the elderly began to feel a sense of disconnect, became isolated from the community along with a general sense of economic despair. Each time a business closed, it meant reduced traffic for all the other businesses in town. With the efforts of many volunteers we decided to establish the Friends & Neighbors Cafe' where people can eat good food, enjoy conversation and connect to the community. What still remains is a need for ongoing volunteer help, meal sponsors, financial contributions to cover general expenses and food purchases.
Additionally, we need donations of kitchen equipment, commercial stoves, ovens, dishwasher, utensils, pots and pans, silverware, dishes, etc. We hope to have the 'Friends & Neighbors' Cafe' open this fall. With your help of financial contributions, volunteer help we can make this a reality. Please consider a donation today to help us help others. Thank you!
Check here for more information, dates and times for the opening of the Cafe'. If you would like to donate or volunteer visit our Contact page.
